The cut of a diamond - its proportions and faceting - will determine the brilliance, or "fire," exhibited by the stone. The better the cut, the more the gem will sparkle.
Usually, the better the cut, the more expensive the stone, because often, more of the rough stone must be sacrificed to produce a more proportionally cut diamond.
